The Ubuntu campus community only supports LTS releases
The latest LTS version of Ubuntu is 12.04 (Precise Pangolin)
You can test systems before buying if you ask the seller to run the Ubuntu Live CD/DVD/USB on it
During installation Ubuntu attempts to detect all the hardware and configures the hardware using available open source drivers (commonly called kernel modules) with the most reliable settings. Click on a link below to do more specific hardware setups.
