During installation and boot-up of your computer Ubuntu activates wired and wireless network devices, however they have to be registered on the campus network before you can access the internet and local campus servers.

Follow the simple procedure to gain access to these facilities by registering your computer.

  1. Contact the campus IT help desk @ X4367 or visit the student IT help center at No: 7 Joubert Street to get your system registered on the campus network.
  2. Or visit the IT website:
(Sorry for the long strange URL)
    https://stbsp01.stb.sun.ac.za/innov/it/it-help/Wiki%20Pages/Student%20Service%20Centre.aspx

Once your computer/laptop has been registered and the network cable is connected to your computer/laptop, the local network configuration should happen automatically. If you change your networking device then you have to re-register your computer.

To modify network settings, click on the network manager icon, next to the speaker icon on the top panel and select Edit Connections
