This article shows how to use Eduroam wifi at another university if you are a Stellenbosch student.

Setting it up

  • Connect to the wifi network called "eduroam".
  • WPA2 Enterprise
  • PEAP
  • Username: <stellenbosch username> or <tygerberg username>
  • Password: normal inetkey password

The WiFi settings windows should look like the following one, taken from Linux Mint 15 with the Cinnamon interface:

On Ubuntu 13.04 and Linux Mint 15 there is a bug that will not allow you to connect. The workaround as provided in a comment to that bug is as follows:

1) configure your network properly with the network manager, it will fail to authenticate

2) run the following in order to edit as root

       sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/eduroam
      (replace eduroam by your network)

3) in the editor replace "system-ca-certs=true" by "system-ca-certs=false" (or even just remove the line)

4) reconnect using the network manager, and it should work

Where does it work?

University Lille 1 INRIA building tested to work fine
University of Goettingen Math institute does not connect, "Authentication problem"
