From Maties Ubuntu

Jump to: navigation, search

Every now and again you may need to modify a text file in Ubuntu. Most configuration files in Ubuntu are plain text files following the tradition of Unix that "everything is a file".

When you are using a terminal, try one of the following;

  • mcedit
  • nano
  • vi

When you are using Ubuntu, try the following after typing ALT+F2;

  • gedit
How-to invoke a root editor
  1. Press ALT+F2 at the same time.
  2. Type "sudo name_of_text_editor". This opens the text editor in root mode.
